Write the National Archives and obtain the Missing Air Crew Report ("MACR"). There is usually a wealth of information in them (if you can read them), including all his squadron & crew info and nose art name maybe, the circumstances of the shootdown, and often POW and remains location information gathered post-war.

Looks like his B-24 was in the 514th Bomb Squadron (376th Bomb Group) -- check the net for veteran's associations for the 376th BG.
