A Westland Whirlwind Fighter (P6994) was shipped to the USA on 5.6.42
The USAAF tested it until mid-late 1944 when it was passed on to the USN.
The USN was said to have conducted testing up until the tailwheel blew, with no replacements available, it was parked in a hangar and forgotten (USN appears never to have officially taken it on their books, so when the USAAF wrote it off theirs it vanished from the system.
It was allegedly seen in the NAS Pensacola scrapyard post-war.
